vanilla sweat.   
"vanilla sweat."   
smoke spins ohs around  the drafts, and ohs spin circles  around a marionette string  trailing a cigarette butt, flicked  into a roadside planter.   
leopard print wraps around red hair,  and attracts wild life to  salt lick earlobes, vanilla in  bay winter sweat, and a ring vibration pool of neon,  caffeine, red bull urine.  gum sticks to my shoe and  cracks, pops, snaps back from the cement,  trailing an opaque and  fibrous tendril with red nail polish  bits in crusted, brown city grime.

i feel  water on my  skin, but not swimming.  twenty years being pulled out  to sea.

language is exhausting . . ..   
language is exhausting; meeting people with seafood.   
 
wooden planks undulate under my feet, throw my equilibrium sideways like pitching a pebble into a crashing wave. i think of this line then, and laugh at myself. when my companion kevin and i hopped the fence and ran toward the pier, we were two; twenty minutes of wandering later, "we" was one. my hair, around my ear inside my cap, fluffed and collected condensation and salt that kept me warm enough to think myself in a straight line. curtains of incandescent fog spire down from the moon above our heads, myself and the two fishermen stumbling off their rig language is exhausting . . .

anything new i have will be here.
i have new things, and i will have new things.

and i'll never forget how much you all changed my writing. i remember what it felt like to stumble into this community, and find so many writers, writing. i still smile when i think of the first piece i workshopped in the forums, and how little of it was left after the fray. most of you made me proud to be a writer, but a beautiful few of you made me the writer i am, today.

if you ever met me, you'd hear yourselves in my voice, i'm sure.
